"Auto Rebuild on Hot Insert" Feature Is Not Working in Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) for Windows*

Description

The auto rebuilding process does not start after removing one of the disks from the system and inserting a replacement on a system running Windows* Server 2022.

Resolution

The Auto Rebuild on Hot Insert feature is disabled by default in the Windows* operating system and must be enabled via the Intel® VROC GUI.

To enable the Auto Rebuild on Hot Insert feature, follow these steps:

1. Start the Intel® VROC GUI application (run as administrator).
2. In the Devices pane, select the controller that contains the RAID member disks (or the drives used to create the RAID volume).
3. In the Controller Properties pane, look for Rebuild on hot insert and select Enable (or Disable to disable the feature).

Additional information

When enabling the Auto Rebuild on Hot Insert feature, keep the following considerations in mind:

• Rebuild on hot insert works only if Windows* has not been restarted after the original drive failed or was removed.
• The new disk inserted must meet the minimum size requirements of the original disk and the array.
• The remaining healthy member disks must be the same type of drive (NVMe/SATA).
• The newly inserted disk must be healthy (no recorded SMART event).
• Keep in mind that all data from the newly inserted disk will be completely erased.
