Is It Possible To Create an Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) RAID Using NVMe* M.2 SSDs on the Intel® Server Board S2600WF?
Environment
Intel® Server Board S2600WF
Description
Unable to use PCIe NVMe* M.2 SSDs to create a RAID using the embedded RAID solution.
Resolution
Neither Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology 2 (Intel® ESRT2) or Intel® VROC, formerly known as Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe), have RAID support on PCIe NVMe* M.2 SSDs when installed to the M.2 connectors on the Intel® Server Board S2600WF.
RAID support for NVMe* SSDs using Intel® VROC requires that the PCIe bus lanes are routed directly from the CPU. On this server board, the PCIe bus lanes routed to the onboard M.2 connectors are routed from the Intel chipset (PCH). The Intel® ESRT2 onboard RAID option does not support NVMe* devices.
Additional information
For more information, refer to the Technical Specifications for the Intel® Server Board and Intel® Server System Based on Intel® Server Board S2600WF Family, section 6.3.1.1: Embedded RAID Support.
