NVMe* Drives Not Working in RAID Configuration in Intel® Server Boards with Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe)

Unable to create RAID configurations when using NVMe* drives on the Intel® Server Boards.

Resolution

The Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise driver (Intel® RSTe) is no longer validated. For Intel® Server Board S2600WF, Intel® Server Board S2600BP, and Intel® Server Board S2600ST product families, the new NVMe* RAID capability is handled by the Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC). Intel® VROC can handle standalone NVMe* drives; however, if NVMe* RAID is desired, in addition to the aforementioned software, an Intel® VROC license is needed. If you are planning to start using Intel® VROC, keep the following considerations in mind:

• RAID support for NVMe* SSDs using Intel® VROC (or Intel® RSTe) requires that the PCIe* bus lanes are routed directly from the CPU via the onboard PCIe* OCuLink connectors, which are wired to CPU socket 1.
• The Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II (Intel® ESRT2) onboard RAID option does not support PCIe devices.
• Mixing both SATA and PCIe NVMe* SSDs within a single RAID volume is not supported.
